An extensive power outage has struck several neighborhoods in the City of Buenos Aires and the southern zone of the Conurbano, with no official response received yet regarding the normalization of the service. Both Edesur and the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ENRE) have not provided information about the failure, with the ENRE website remaining inoperative.
In the absence of official data, it is still unclear when the supply will be restored in the affected areas. Edesur has not yet issued an official statement regarding the failure, having made its last publication on social media on March 3, where they warned about storms and recommended actions in the event of power outages.
Regarding the current demand of the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI), according to data from Cammesa, it stood at 17,556 MW, with 32% coming from renewable energies, where hydroelectric energy exceeds 22% and wind and solar sources account for the other 10%. The province of Buenos Aires receives 2,254 MW, while the Litoral and Comahue contribute 1,440 MW and 708 MW respectively in power flows.
In terms of transportation, the situation is affected by interruptions in key services such as the Line B subway and delays in branches of the Roca Railway. Additionally, traffic lights out of service have contributed to vehicular chaos on various avenues in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the Conurbano. Uncertainty persists with no estimated time for service restoration, exacerbated by the sharp drop in energy generation in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (GBA) during the early morning.
With an electricity generation matrix where 68% comes from non-renewable sources, the main contribution lies in thermal generation, reaching 56%. Meanwhile, users continue to await responses from Edesur and the ENRE, as the impacts extend to transportation and mobility in the city.
